Social Anxiety Support Groups

The Social Anxiety Support Group consists of a number of participants (usually 8 -12) who because of similar struggles and hopes, can offer understanding and encouragement to individuals as they gradually work towards gaining social confidence. Erika has been facilitating social anxiety support groups for the past 25 years.

Social Anxiety Support Groups offer a creative blend of education and experience in a warm and supportive environment.

In These 10 Sessions You Will Learn:

  • The various ways social anxiety is experienced, and in what kinds of situations
  • The causes of shyness / social anxiety and what keeps it going
  • The different attitudes towards shyness in different cultures
  • How the brain works during the stress response
  • How to manage the physical aspects of anxiety: blushing, sweating, heart palpitations
  • How to start conversations and keep them going
  • How to deal with criticisms, with conflict situations
  • Self-esteem boosters
  • How to recognize mental traps that feed social anxiety such as post mortems, mistake phobia, comparison trap
  • How to overcome negative self-talk
  • How to develop a new relationship with your shyness and social anxiety
  • How to develop and follow through on confidence-building goals addressing body (calming techniques), mind (thoughts and imagery work) and action (eye contact, initiative, exposure)
  • How to practice courage
  • How to practice being the real you more and more of the time!

 

Who Should Attend?
Adults tired of feeling anxious in social situations and ready to explore new ways of being

Location:The support sessions occur in Erika’s office in central Burnaby, BC. If you are coming from Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Moody or Langley, you should allow up to 30 minutes of travel time.
